On our trip down to Dayton, our busses stopped at the Neil Armstrong
Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta, Ohio. While we waited to go inside,
the youth explored the outdoor exhibits. Here they are checking out the
Gemini space capsule. |
 |
This is after our tour and the Scouts are testing out the gliders they
bought in the gift shop. |
 |
With Saturday morning came the rain. And it rained almost all day!
This is the mess tents set up on the runway by our hosts. |
 |
Parade to the Opening Ceremonies. |
 |
With the wet weather dampening our desire to stay outside, we headed
into the Air Force Museum. Near the entrance there is a park full of
memorials by various units squadrons. |
 |
Inside the museum hangars are aircraft of every size and shape. This
is a huge B-36 Peacemaker Cold War bomber powered by 6 propeller and 4
jet engines. Sitting next to it is a T-33 Shooting Star trainer. |
 |
The hangars are huge! Here is a 8 engine B-52 Stratofortress with a
185 foot wingspan! |
 |
After the main display we were allowed to visit the Presidential
Hangars. This is a picture of President John F. Kennedy's Air Force One.
This is the actual aircraft that carried him to and from Dallas, Texas
in November 1963. |
 |
There were several bands playing in the main tent in the afternoon and
into the evening. |
 |
Want to walk on a rope bridge anyone? |
 |
On Saturday night, we were treated to an absolutely awesome laser
light show. While these are very difficult on capture on film, Scouter
Steve did manage to get this shot of the Scout Sign. |
